Friends, fiends, and fellow travelers,
It’s been a joy and an honor tending the desk here at Prospero House—serving up shadows, secrets, and no small amount of horror over these past seasons. Many of you have joined me in delving the darker corners of Call of Cthulhu, chasing madness, Mythos, and mystery, and I’m grateful for every step of the journey.
But the time has come, as it often does, to follow another path.
I’ll be shifting my writing efforts to a new space: This Rough Magic on Substack.
This Rough Magic will be something a little different. It continues the discussion about tabletop roleplaying games, but with a more personal and reflective focus—exploring how these strange, collaborative stories can help us connect, find belonging, practice mindfulness, and maybe even take better care of ourselves along the way. There will still be some darkness (old habits die hard), but it won’t be exclusively rooted in horror or Call of Cthulhu.
If you’ve enjoyed my musings here, I invite you to come along. All are welcome. Prospero House will remain intact, continuing to gather dust.
Thank you, truly, for your time, your encouragement, and your imagination. Until we meet again—whether in the streets of Arkham or at the edge of some new and wondrous world—keep the lantern lit.
—Doc
Thank you for all of the effort and love you’ve put into Prospero over the years!
Thanks for all your hard work Doc. I was just getting ready to Mask when this webpage popped up on one of my searches and turned out to an amazingly helpful in getting my arms around the monster that is Mask. My players had a blast and 92, two hour sessions later, we completed the Mask. I hope the sight stays up for future handlers running Mask!
Thank you for your service is documenting the Mythos at Prospero House. Your insights here will be missed but will still follow you over on substack.
Sooner or later we all have to move on to new things. Thank you so much Doc for the support and conversations we had that have enhanced my own pursuit and enjoyment of the hobby. I’ll be sure to keep an eye on your new substack.
